We have been preparing for Valentine’s Day since February 1st. Ryan brought home his class list containing the names of all the boys and girls in his class. 16 total. A note home said that a good activity would be to have your child sit down and write the names on each of the Valentine’s by his/herself. This IS a good activity to practice those writing skills, but I knew it would be like pulling teeth to get Ryan to actually WANT to do this. We started February 2nd and sat down 3 different times to write out a few at a time. I am so proud of him. He complained a minimal amount and was able to get them all done.
February has been a pretty snowy month for us in the Southern Tier of NY. Ryan has had quite a few snow days from school, seeing as how every time there is so much as a two hour delay, his morning class in canceled. So…we took that opportunity to create some Valentines for Mimi, who we send our love to across the miles. Ella was the most interested in this activity. She sat for a solid hour (which is a lot for a busy 2 1/2 year old) and covered her whole heart with stickers and feathers and even a few scribbles. Ryan got into it too, and even wanted to put a mustache on his Valentine Man that he made for Mimi. (I’m not sure if he was thinking that Mimi needed a man for Valentine’s Day, or what…but a Valentine Man is what we made!?)
So…all that hard work put into making Valentines and getting them completed to take them to school for a fun Valentine’s Day party…and this is what we end up with…
A poor, sick (and somewhat angry looking) child with a fever of 102. Sad.
We have been passing some kind of flu-like bug around our house for almost a week. Ella started with a fever on Wednesday, and by Friday she was majorly congested and it seems now to have moved into her chest. I also got it on Wednesday, though mine began with aches and chills. My head currently feels like a big balloon. Ryan ended up with it on Saturday. He has the high fever like Ella had, as well as congestion. So far, James is the only one who does not have it. We are hoping, for his sake, that it stays that way! Sigh…
At least Ella is looking a little more like herself, today!
My Valentine from James was a lovely bouquet of flowers. Well, the second bouquet was lovely. The first one came, and most of the flowers were dead. I took it in stride and laughed it off, but James was not happy (which I don’t blame him), but he called and demanded they were happy to oblige in delivering a second bouquet for free. So…today, I received the second bouquet and combined the new flowers with the remaining flowers from the old bouquet (you know, the ones that were not all droopy) and it is gorgeous! I wasted some time had some fun photographing them this morning.
